why were you sent here. worden needed a music teacher, so derrick went. he really didn't know what he was getting himself into and doubted that "crazies" would even need a music teacher. however, derrick goes to where he is needed.

Hailing from two much older parents, Derrick was somewhat oppressed for most of his home life. As a child, music had always been an escape, as cliche as that sounds. His mother and father had two very different tastes in what they thought good music was compared to Derrick's view. With this, Derrick never felt emotionally attached to his parents. If he didn't have music in common with them, he didn't have anything in common with them. They were there for him, but the were more like financial support rather then emotional. His parents never really agreed with him on much, and got bored with his antics after a while.
Derrick grew up an only child with well-off parents, so naturally he was spoiled a bit. He made his first friend with a black and white Gibson guitar that he named Lola at the age of eight. Whenever his parents would get on his nerves, or when he would get picked on at school, he would spend his time with his guitar. Derrick was never given lessons, but all the time of being sad, angry, or just upset, added up and he became a great guitar player at the age of fourteen. From there, he carried on with the instrument and tried to always improve at it.
School was always hard for Derrick, social and mentally. Even though he couldn't answer a simple math equation, he could tell you what song topped the charts in 1987. However, he quickly realized that that information would get him no where in school. He knew that he would just have to go through the motions, pass at least, then get the hell out of the cess-pool of a school. But, there was one thing that kept his spirits alive in school and that was the school's band and orchestra. Through-out his school years he learned how to play the string bass, violin, cello, tuba, trumpet and clarinet. It all came naturally to him. He was highly talented, but was underestimated by everyone.
After Derrick passed high school with a 2.3 grade point average, he went on to college after being forced by his parents. He decided that the best occupation to enroll into was Musical Education and so he did just that. During college, he played in a local band that did random gigs in bars and such. He then came to realize that he was actually a pretty good singer and song writer. However, he knew that there wasn't much he could do with his talents because after all, he really didn't have that much support behind him. People made him feel awkward anyways, so no longer wanting to be in any public eye, Derrick quit the band and finished college, barely. So with this, and being his awkward self, he decided that the best place he should be is in a secluded institute... in Russia... for insane kids.
